Some “large players” in China are showing stepped-up interest in buying high-sulfur coal produced in Illinois, Bill Hoback, deputy director of the Illinois Office of Coal Development, said earlier this week. Although Illinois does not currently export any coal to China, Hoback said in an interview Tuesday that could change if the recent feelers his office is receiving are translated into actual sales agreements.
