Positioning miniplates for orthodontic anchorage.

Titanium miniplates have been used in orthodontic treatment as stable anchorage devices. The precise height for miniplate placement is essential for effective orthodontic mechanics, and incorrect po-sitioning can make them useless for orthodontic movement. This article describes a simple and practical surgical guide developed to help surgeons and orthodontists in the determination of miniplate placement, making their communication easier.The first step is to define the ideal location for miniplate fixation based on the orthodontic treatment plan. Then, a pencil is used to draw a circle exactly on the place determined on a patient's dental cast (Fig 1).
