Instrumental diagnosis, the use of molecular biology, the knowledge and distinction of tens of different keratins, lymphocytes, cytokines, and messenger proteins, and the introduction of genetics are second in importance and significance to clinical morphology. It can have practical meaning only when related to morphologic findings. It is all right mentally to reach toward the stars with the rocket science of molecular medicine, but it is only acceptable only as long as both feet are firmly planted on the ground; in other words, only when dealing with the actual lesion on the actual skin of the actual patient.
