Intraoral presentation of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (pseudotumor) at the site of dental extraction: report of a case and review of the literature.

First described in 1905 by Birch-Hirschfield, inflammatory myonbroblastic tumors are benign tumors of unknown etiology.1"3 Originally termed "pseudotu-mors" because of the clinical and radiologic expansile similarity to malignant tumors, they were renamed by the World Health Organization in 1994. The distinction between inflammatory myofibroblastic and malignant tumors is of paramount clinical importance. We report a case of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor occurring at the site of dental extraction.
