The structure and molecular packing of a ZnI2-Pyrazine adduct are reported. Attractive zigzag (II)-I-... interactions dominate the molecular packing in the structure and link ZnI2-pyz zigzag chains to result in the formation of three-dimensional network structure. The optical limiting property was studied by Z-scan technology with an 8 ns-pulsed laser at 532 run. The limiting threshold was determined to be 0.13 J cm(-2), which is comparable to those of many heterothiometallates. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
