The self-assembly of Cd(II) ion, hexamethylenetetraniine(hmt) and maleate ligand yields coordination polymer (Cd-3(mu(3)-hmt)(2) (mu(2)-C4H2O4)(2)(H2O)(6)]SO(4)(.)4H(2)O with channels, in which Cd(II) ions intercalate between the two-dimensional wavy layers of polymer, joining them as spacers to give a three-dimensional (3, 4)-connected network of uncommon topological type.
