Potato plastic moves to industrial scale

Two italian companies have collaborated on italy’s first polyhydroxyalkanoates (pha) bioplastic production plan using potato processing waste products. sustainable chemicals firm Bio-on announced earlier in march 2015 its partnership with pizzoli, italy’s largest potato business. the two firms will build a plant to produce around 2,000 tonnes per year of pha, coming online in 2017. the plant will also be set up to double in size at some point in future, according to the partners.
