Chinese regional regulation promotes use of bioplastics

A region of China has introduced a ban that it appears will be more effective than previous plastics bans in the country - and will provide a significant boost for bioplastics. the regulation promotes the use of polylactic acid (pla) bioplastic in Jilin in northeast China - a region that produces large quantities of corn and corn derivatives - for bags and foodservice items. the ban took effect at the beginning of 2015 and is reportedly being comprehensively enforced.
