Based on the extended Huygens–Fresnel principle, an analytical expression for the elements of a cross-spectral matrix for electromagnetic Gaussian–Schell model (EGSM) beams in a slanted path is derived. With the help of this expression, we investigate the average intensity, the degree of polarization (DOP) and the degree of coherence (DOC) for EGSM beams in a slanted path. Results show that the far-zone DOP and DOC of EGSM beams in a slanted path are determined by the parameters of the source, which are different from the situations in a horizontal path.
