A novel full-length human cDNA homologous to Glia Maturation Factor-β (GMF-β) gene was isolated. Sequence analysis of the entire cDNA revealed an open reading frame of 426 nucleotides with a deduced protein sequence of 142 amino acid residues. The deduced amino acid sequences of its putative product is highly homologous to human GMF-β (82% identity) and named for GMF-γ. Northern blot analysis indicated that a message of 0.9 kb long, but not 4.1 kb of GMF-β, is predominantly expressed in human lung, heart, and placenta.
