At the end of 2012, the us-based international safe transit association (ista) published a Responsible Packaging by Design Guide to create a standard around meeting packaging’s functional requirements, while remaining within the modern expectations of sustainability. the document responds to a perceived lack of available guidance for packaging engineers in planning, conducting and documenting a sustainable, or responsible, packaging development project. since 2010 a team of industry representatives has been working on a document that would fill this gap.
