Success of ‘carbon-negative’ material underlines value of LCAs

Associations representing the bioplastics industry are keen for developers to be responsible in their sustainability claims, securing third-party assessments of the environmental impact (or benefits) of their materials from approved certifiers. From this many in the industry have converged on lifecycle analysis (LCA) as a suitable measure of a material’s environmental impact and industry associations are keen for developers to seek credible suppliers of these services, to ensure claims are kept in proportion - and that the industry as a whole does not suffer as a result of its own hype.
