It needs to be said outright. Prenatal care is broken and the opportunity to fix it is now. Prenatal care in the United States started in the early 20th century, and over time the content grew in proportion to new scientific knowledge in the field. In 1989, the Public Health Service Expert Panel on the Content of Prenatal Care noted that much of the care we were providing was never evaluated for efficacy.
