Piper nigram, Trichoderma viride and thiram and dimethoate were explored for their effectiveness in inhibiting the inoculum potential of specific fungal microflora in mungbean seeds stored for different durations. The treatment dimethoate (6 ml/kg) +thiram (2.5 ml/kg) induced maximum suppression (43%) of the fungal microflora across the storage duration and subsequently produced the greatest increase in seed germination (51%) and seedling (1.35 fold increased) vigour index. The next level of fungalsuppression was obtained with thiram @ 2.5 ml/kg. Trichoderma (2.5 g/kg) and black pepper (3 g/kg) also induced significant infection suppression corresponding with improved germination and vigour index but the response was relatively lower compared to the chemicals. Out of the four target fungal microflora, Aspergillus flavus and A niger were more responsive to the treatments than Penicillium sp. and Rhizoctonia solani.
