摘要

Alternaria alternata is a common pathogen associated with tomato fruit rot that can occur in the field, during harvesting, transportation and even in refrigerated storage. This species is of particular interest to mycotoxicologists as it produces an array of toxins. In view of this, vegetable markets of Jammu were surveyed for tomatoes showing black rot lesions. From these lesions, twenty isolates of A. alternata were collected and analysed for their toxin producing potential in the tomato fruits. Ofthe tested isolates, 45% produced tenuazonic acid (TeA), 35% produced altertoxin-1 (ATX-1) and 20% produced alternariol (AOH) in the tomatoes during pathogenesis.
