Effect of Root Exudates of Susceptible and Resistant Bidi Tobacco Seedlings on Egg Hatching of Root-Knot Nematodes

Bidi tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L) is an important narcotic cash crop. However, it suffers badly from many abnormalities caused by wide range of pathogens viz, fungi, nematodes, bacteria, viruses and flowering plant parasites (Lucas 1975). It is attacked by root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica) in light soils of Gujarat. Bidi tobacco cv. Anand 119 (A 119) and Anand Bidi Tobacco 10 (ABT 10) are reported as highly susceptible and resistant to root-knot nematodes, respectively (Patel and Patel 2009; Patel et al 2010).
