Diversity Analysis of Keratinophilic Fungi with Special Reference to Chrysosporium from Different Habitats of Kanpur, India

Keratinophilic fungi from 110 samples at 11 habitats of Kanpur, India were investigated by hair baiting technique. Twenty three genera representing 54 keratinophilic species were detected from the samples. The correlation between genus and species of keratinophilic fungi were analyzed. The species were classified dominant, general and rare according to dominance index. The important value index (IVI) of species was calculated individually in each habitat according to their richness. The diversity index, L-index and generic coefficient were found to vary in 11 habitats. The results showed that the species composition and distribution of keratinophilic fungi had shown variability in different habitats, and then the dominant genus and species varied in the 11 habitats. In six of the habitats, Chrysosporium was dominant genus and C. indicum being dominant species.
