Studies were made to determine the influence of soil and manure ratio (v/v) of casing soil on the time taken for pinhead initiation after casing and yield of milky mushroom, Calocybe indica strain APK-2. The pinhead initiation was significantly delayed when soil-farm yard manure (FYM) ratio was 1:2, 3:2 or 2:1; and soil-spent compost ratio was 2:1, as compared with 1:1 ratio, A maximum delay of 14.4 days was observed in soil-FYM at a ratio of 2:1 as compared to 1:1. Significantly more fruiting bodieswere harvested from soil-FYM at 1:1 and 3:2 ratios, and soil-spent compost at 1:1, 2:3 and 3:2 ratios as compared to other combinations. Average fruiting body weight was not much influenced by different ratios but significantly heavier fruiting bodies were harvested with FYM as compared to spent compost. The highest fruiting body yield (660 g) was recorded in soil-FYM at a ratio of 1:1 followed by 3:2, 2:1, 2:3 and 1:2, respectively. In soil and spent compost casing, its highest yield (647 g) was observed in 2:3 ratio.
