Effect of Different Casings on Yield of Agaricus bisporous and A. bitorquis in Bihar, India

Agaricus bisporas (three strains) and A. bitorquis (two stains) were evaluated for yield performance using 12 different casing materials. All the three strains were found suitable for cultivation under natural conditions in Pusa, Bihar. Among the three strains of A. bisporus i.e. Solan (DMR) ND, Faizabad and CSA, Kanpur, CSA strains gave significantly higher yields (17 kg/q compost) followed by Solan strain (14 kg/q compost). The two strains of A. bitorquis, NCB 13 and ND gave higher yields and were at par (14-15 kg/q compost). Of the 12 casing materials tested, spent compost and dung compost at 1:2 ratio gave a significantly higher yield (22 kg/q compost). With A. bitorquis also, this combination casing was found suitable to obtain yields of 16 kg/q compost. A negative correlation of yield was noticed with temperature, but it was positive with humidity.
