Eco-Friendly Management of Fruit Rot of Tomato Caused by Alternaria alternata

摘要

Significantly the lowest mycelial growth of Alternaria alternata in vitro was in medium containing garlic clove extracts (10%). The next best were turmeric and neem leaf extracts (10%). Garlic clove extracts proved again highly effective in reducing the Alternaria fruit rot severity 7 d after inoculation in both pre- and post-inoculation treatments followed by leaf extracts of Datura and Ocimum sanctum. The pre-inoculation treatment was more effective than post-inoculation treatment. Mycelial growthof A. alternata was inhibited by Trichoderma viride in dual culture. It also reduced the severity of Alternaria rot in pre-inoculation tests. The hot water fruit dip treatment at 50C for 5 min was found best for controlling the rot without hampering thefruit quality.
