Nonnoble catalyst are discussed as an appropriate alternative for noble metal compounds in fuel cell systems. Two different kinds of catalysts based on ironphthalocyanine and ironsulfate are prepared and characterised for the electro-chemical oxygen reduction. Both types show catalytic activity depending on the conditions of preparation.
