Stromomyomas are relatively rare uterine tumors that exhibit ultrastructural characteristics of both endometrial stromal and smooth muscle cells [1-3]. In most cases, differentiation of endometrial stromal and smooth muscle tumors can be made solely by routine light microscopic examination. The World Health Organization currently recognizes the existence of such a hybrid neoplasm in its classification of uterine tumors [4]. Imaging examinations often lead to the misdiagnosis of stromomyomas as either leiomyosarcomas or leiomyoma cystic degeneration, whereas reliance on histo-logic examinations often results in stromomyomas being misdiagnosed as cellular leiomyomas [5].
