摘要

Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is widely used for machining of variety of conductive materials like titanium, tungsten, copper, zirconium, molybdenum etc, machining hard materials posses several difficulties and challenges while employing traditional machining methods. Nickel being competitive and multifunctional is hard and high strength material. It has greater demand in industrial sectors especially in defense. It is being used for cartridges, weapons and electroplating. The information on employing WEDM for nickel is either unavailable or scanty. Hence, in this study, WEDM is explored for nickel followed by the tests and evaluation from mechanical and metallurgical point of view is carried out. The output parametrical changes (MRR and SR) are investigated with respect to the composition and configuration of the wire material being used (Brass and Zinc coated wire).
