Upgrading productivity in surface mines--we need world class solutions

摘要

The proceedings of the Conference on "Productivity in surface mines and quarries - role of new technology and ancillary equipment" hosted by this Journal between 3-4 January 2009, which forms the basis of this special issue, has much relevance to the surface mining industry not only in India but also globally. Surface mining today straddles the entire domain of mining with nearly 75 percent of minerals extracted using surface mining, big and small. There is much to be gleaned from the papers presented in this issue which could significantly benefit Indian surface mining industry providing as they do completely integrated solutions examining the productivity issues from many standpoints.
