摘要

A sustainable face control is very important for successful longwall operation in a given geo-mining condition. In the backdrop of past experiences from longwall operation in India, a serious R&D work is under progress for improving the current understanding of caving mechanism and support performance. This paper presents the findings of a parametric modeling of the effect of horizontal stress on caving behaviour and support performance with respect to geo-mining conditions prevailing in India. The spans of first local and the main falls have been quantified and the performance of a support of given capacity has been evaluated under varying horizontal stress conditions. The results of the study have been properly elaborated to pin point the origin of various issues related to effective face control for smooth longwall operation in any geo-mining condition.
