A statistical method is presented, based on stochastic transition matrices, to describe the growth of non-crystalline materials. The method is applied to model the growth of a typical covalent network glass like amorphous GexSe1-x. As a result, an analytical relation between the glass transition temperature, concentration of Ge and bonding energies is found. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
