Layered LiMnO2 with R-3m space group have been prepared as cathode materials of lithium-ion batteries using a wet chemical route. The precursors obtained by mixing LiOH and Mn(CH3COO)(2) were heated at 600 degreesC for 12 hours. Citric acid was added to control the mole ratio of Li and Mn in the precursors. Comparing to ion exchange route, this route is much simpler and cheaper In order to obtain a pure phase of LiMnO2, the technological condition of preparation must be controlled strictly, especially the pH values of mixed solutions. From the data of powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), the real formulas of two samples were determined. They are [Li-0.98](3b) [Mn-1.06](3a)O-2 and [Li-1.12](3b)[Mn-1.02](3a)O-2, with space group R-3m.
