When a predator as elusive as the African wild dog crosses your path, you'd be a fool not to follow it, even if the ensuing rollercoaster ride is a one-way ticket to a severe bruising. Because, as Tim Knight found out, that's a small price to pay forthe experience... Our morning unfolds calmly enough. Coaxed gently from our slumbers by the dulcet tones of a Heuglin's robin duet, seduced by the smell of freshly brewed coffee, the campfire crackle and the guttural grunts of a hippo, we breakfast beside the angular silhouette of a goliath heron. Silent and statuesque, it calls to mind an Antony Gormley figure staring expectantly across the water.
