摘要

Chronic ambient ammonia stress is reported to alter physiological and metabolic status of fish Cyprinus Capio. Acute effect of ammonia for 3 hours and extent of recovery after one day of exposure in ammonia free water has been studied in the present investigatioa Fish are exposed to 2.96 mg/litre of ammonia for 3 hours. After three hours, they are kept in ammonia free water for 1 day for recovery. The liver tissue of both ammonia stress and ammonia free water samples was analyzed for glucose, acid, and alkaline phosphatases, nucleic acid and adenine nucleotides. Increment in glucose, acid & alkaline phosphatases and adenine nucleotide levels while decrement in DNA and RNA levels was observed on ammonia stress and in recovery. These changes suggest that acute ammonia stress seem to result in catabolic response and a tendency to recover has been observed when it is removed from stress.
