摘要

An attempt has been made to find out the distribution of microbial population in fresh fleshy root and leafy vegetables available in local market of Allahabad during the survey of one year. High frequency of E. coli, Salmonella, faecal Streptococci and Vibric positive samples were recorded in all the selected vegetables Radish (Raphanus sativus), Carrot (Daucus carota), Turnip (Brasicca rapa), Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) and Beet (Beta vulgaris). High frequency of only Salmonella positive sample wasrecorded in radish among all the vicinities. Investigated samples from Khuldabad market, Meerapur subzi mandi and Allahpur market showed wide distribution of Salmonella typhi, faecal Streptococci and E. coli followed by Mundera sabzi mandi, Maliewa Bazarand Rajroop pur. Low frequency for the distribution of microbes was traced in carrot. The significance of bacterial pollution of vegetables is discussed in the light of public health problem.
