The metathesis reaction, Li2CuO2 + 2 LnOCl-->Ln(2)CuO(4) + 2 LiCl, (Ln = La, Nd), provides a convenient route for the synthesis of La2CuO4 and Nd2CuO4 at relatively low temperatures (700-800degreesC). Use of Sr/Ba- substituted LaOCl in the above reaction enables synthesis of superconducting analogues, La(1.85)A(0.15)CuO(4) (A = Sr, Ba), as well. A new lithium-substituted derivative of nominal composition La1.8Li0.2CuO4 has also been synthesized in the metathesis reaction between Li2CuO2 and La(OH)(3) . [References: 26]
