Carbon thin films with blue emission were fabricated on various substrates by spin coating dodecylamine (DDA)-capped carbon nanoparticles (CNPs).Blue-light emission in solid-state optoelectronic devices has been an area of great interest since the first GaN-based blue light emitting diode (LED) in the 1990s. A direct band gap of ~2.5 to 3 eV is required to realize blue-light emission from semiconductor devices. Thus far, such blue-light devices have been fabricated from inorganic semiconductors (usually ZnO and GaN) or organic materials.
