A cytocompatible visible light-mediated interfacial thiol-norbornene photopolymerization scheme was developed for creating a hydrogel conformal coating on pancreatic islets. The step-growth thiol-norbornene reaction provides high consistency and tunability to gel coating thickness. Furthermore, isolated islets coated with thiolnorbornene gel maintained their viability and function in vitro.
