Gliding out of Henningsvaer's preposterously picturesque harbour, past rafts of cooing eiders and through the reflections of colourful rorbuer (fishermen's cabins), is like floating into an ethereal otherworld. It's certainly not the kind of place onemight expect to start a search for what many perceive as a dangerous, aggressive predator. Wildlife film-makers are invariably up before dawn to work in the best possible light. But rising before the sun was impossible today: 250km inside the Arctic Circle, the sun doesn't set in midsummer. Fortunately, Norway's Lofoten Islands are breathtakingly beautiful at any time of day.The plentiful rorbuer, fishing boats and patrolling white-tailed eagles are clues that these are productive waters.
