Static mixers are well known in the process industry for mixing, blending and related tasks. However, very often stirred tanks are instead used to perform such tasks, simply because they are there. This behavior could change as the advantages of static mixers over stirred vessels become more widely understood, and as the use of micromixers becomes more popular.
