Management of hypocalcaemia in the oncology clinics.

Sir - Thyroid cancer patients are at risk of developing hypocalcaemia after surgery due to the removal of the parathyroid glands or after temporary or permanent devascularisation of the parathyroids. Temporary devascu-larisation often recovers within a few years of surgery. Hypoparathyroidism can be difficult to manage. Patients may be taking many unpalatable calcium tablets with variable amounts of compliance.
