Some of the eco-friendly compounds viz. 1-Hydroxy 1,2,3-benzotriazole(HOBt), (2-(1H-benzotriazole-1-yl)-1,1,3,3-teramethyluronium hexafluorophosphate) (HBtU) and (2-(7-Aza-1H-benzotriazole-1-yl)-1,1,3,3-teramethyluronium hexafluorophosphate) (HAtU) also called uroniums being used as coupling reagents in protein synthesis have been experimented as inhibitors for controlling corrosion of mild steel(MS) in 0.5MHCl solution at 303 K using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), polarization technique, quantum chemistry and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Further, the obtained data were interpreted with the help of different adsorption isotherms like Frumkin,Langmuir,Langmuir-Freundlich amd Flory-Huggins. in order to visualize the mechanism of inhibition in depth. The sequence of percentage inhibition was found as HBtU > HAtU > HOBt with peculiar behavior in case of HAtU. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
