Since Solanaceous crops in general and pepper and eggplant specifically love warm temperatures, production in much of Pennsylvania is a challenge, both from the standpoint of temperature and moisture. Pepper and eggplant plants stop growing below 45 deg F and will have a difficult time maturing fruit when average night temperature drops below 50 deg F. Optimum growth of peppers and eggplant plants is between 75 and 85 deg F daytime temperature.
