California Researchers Look at Radicchio and Host Plants

Back in 2005, when tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) began showing up in the Fresno/Huron, California regions, researchers began attacking the problem by trying to identify possible host plants for the virus. TSWV was considered a potentially serious problem since it is one of the few viruses vectored by thrips. Over the past three years, researchers have narrowed down the possible list of host plants and have successfully treated the virus in various fields by controlling thrips.
