North Carolina seeks coal-fired emissions cuts

North Carolina, which has recently imposed tough new emissions limits on in-state utilities like Duke Energy, filed a March 18 petition with the Environmental Protection Agency to require emissions cuts from coal-fired plants in 13 upwind states. The petition, filed by Attorney General Roy Cooper under Section 126 of the Clean Air Act, calls for the EPA to require cuts in ozone- and particle-forming emissions from power plants in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
