Tips to Produce and Pack Peppers in the World of Foodborne Illnesses

Dr. Wesley Kline, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, has been educating growers on produce safety, including good agricultural practices (GAPs) and good manufacturing practices (GMPs) for over ten years. The agricultural agent for Cumberland County, New Jersey, Dr. Kline updated growers on food safety in pepper production and packing at this year's Mid-Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable Convention in Hershey, Pa. These recommendations are not necessarily all-inclusive for all produce. Also, Dr. Kline stressedthat produce buyers can and do make demands beyond these practices.
