NAPLES, Fla. - The escalating costs of production, maintaining a viable workforce, food safety regulations, land the governmental phase-out of methyl bromide are among the many challenges that the Florida tomato industry continues to face, accordingto Reggie Brown, manager of the Florida Tomato Committee (FTC) and executive vice president of the Florida Tomato Exchange (FTE). Brown gave an overview of the past season and pointed out future challenges during the 36th Florida Joint Tomato Conference, held Sept. 6-9 at the Naples Ritz-Carlton hotel.
