With a goal toward determining performance across the region, last season the Great Lakes Vegetable Working Group (GLVWG) evaluated 10 tomato varieties classified as heirlooms. Of the sixteen sites, nine were analyzed to identify differences in yield,insect and disease pressure, and fruit characteristics among regions. Working group members and a member of the Solanacae Coordinated Agricultural Project, Dr. David Francis of Ohio State, chose the varieties. Amish Paste, Brandywine, Burbank, CherokeePurple, Jaune Flamme, Opalka, Oxheart, Peron, Rutgers and Tainan were selected.
