Between tomatoes and onions, he's a busy man

Homestead, Fla. - Between operating a 500-acre tomato enterprise in Florida's Home stead area and a 200-acre onion farm in upstate New York, Freddy Strano doesn't need a treadmill to get his exercise every day. He is always on the go and vacation days have been few and tar between. Freddy has been farming on his own since 1960. and although he has aspirations of some day slowing down, thus far there has been no visible shift in that direction. In mid-September, the grower begins winding down his onion operations near Fulton, N.Y., packs his bags and prepares for the annual move to Homestead, Fla. He arrives there each year around Oct. 1, just in time to oversee the planting of his first early season tomato crop.
