Assessment of genetic diversity among Aloe vera germplasm accessions using RAPD and ISSR markers

Thirty Aloe vera germplasm accessions available with the Issapur experimental farm of NBPGR, New Delhi, India, were subjected to Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and Inter Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) markers analysis in relation to morphometric parameters for estimating the extent of diversity between the accessions. Morphological evaluation of the accessions for selected characters showed qualitative variation among them. The RAPD analysis revealed comparable inter and intra species variation. A total of 148 bands were amplified with 19 primers. Out of 148 bands 60.91% were found polymorphic whereas 88 bands were amplified with 11 ISSR primers with an average of 8.8 fragments per primer and 79.42% of these were found polymorphic.
