Study on antibacterial activity of Woodfordia fruticosa Kurz.

摘要

This study deals with evaluation of antibacterial activity of Woodfordia fruticosa Kurz. collected from southern Aravalli hills of Rajasthan. Flowers of this plant were extracted in petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol while leaves and bark were extracted in methanol only. All the extracted samples were screened for their antibacterial activity. Methanolic extract of leaves and flowers of the plant showed significant activity against all the tested bacterial strains with a zone of inhibition varied from 10 to 17 mm. Lesser antibacterial activity was observed in case of methanolic extract of the stem bark.
