Investigations on rooting efficiency by treatment of different concentration of IBA and propagation environment on patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth.) cuttings was carried out in Department of Horticulture, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during September to October 2004. Terminal cuttings (12-15 cms) of patchouli were dipped in different concentrations of IBA (250, 500, 750 and 1000 ppm) and placed under four environments viz., open condition, shade house (Shade-50%), polytunnel placedunder shade house and mist house. The cuttings treated with IBA - 500 ppm and placed under mist house recorded highest per cent rooting (100%) and excellent quality roots with maximum number of roots (109.7), longest root (12.26 cm) and high fresh (21.80 g) and dry (2.22 g) weight of roots. Similarly patchouli cuttings treated with IBA - 500 ppm and above and placed under low cost polytunnel under shade house registered equally high rooting percentage (97.5 -100.0) with fairly good root quality and robust plantlets. Use of low cost polytunnel in combination with IBA 500 ppm treatment to cuttings is more practical and economic technique for commercial multiplication.
