Blackhawk Mining starts production at Redhawk No. 1 in eastern Kentucky

Blackhawk Mining has started up a second mine in eastern Kentucky from assets acquired nearly a year ago from defunct Black Diamond Mining and plans to open two additional mines soon, Blackhawk President Nick Glancy said last week. The Redhawk No. 1 mine, an underground operation, began producing steam coal from the Elkhorn No. 3 seam in Floyd County in January, Glancy said. “It’s a brand new mine. It’s right there on the Black Diamond [preparation] plant.”
