Metadata in Archival and Cultural Heritage Settings: A Review of the Literature

This article provides an overview of the literature related to metadata in the context of archives and museums. This article has several goals: to outline current practices, theories, and models; to discuss existingmetadata schemas; and to identify theoretical models that apply to metadata schema design in this context. The article also explores best practices and identifies gaps in the literature; it offers suggestions for future research on metadata in archives and cultural heritage institutions.
