Mine Act gives MSHA latitude to ‘maximize regulatory limits’

Existing federal mine safety laws give government officials sufficient tools to enforce workplace safety, but they must be fully enforced by the Mine Safety and Health Administration to be effective, director Joseph Main said last week. The agency is currently examining programs to ensure it is fully implementing all parts of its founding legislation as well as stringent regulatory updates signed into law in 2006, said Main, who is nearing the end of his first year as the top US mine safety official.
